Don Cheadle says NO

“Riders of the storm, Mo-Fo’s!”

Some idiot computer game maker is making a film about Darfur. No it won’t be a great tool for advocacy for Darfur- you’ll watch this if you find genocide entertaining. Starring Billy zane and that B grade actress from the last gasp Terminator 3 movie, see the Darfur the Movie website for the film trailer replete with spelling mistakes and janjaweed gangsters.

I don’t think you have to be ‘in the know’ about the Darfur conflict to find this film to be tasteless and disrepectful to the people of this war torn region.

It doesn’t look like a very good film—the cast I terrible—but it’d be hard to argue that it’s not well-intentioned. Don’t be one of those ex-pats who claims foreign places (or, in this instance, genocides) as their own. That would be even more tasteless.

I think his history of making video games where one actively participate in acts of extreme violence somewhat discredits his good intentions.

But i am interested to see if the final product is as cringeworthy as the trailer and documentary.

    Food for thought, thanks ryan!

Sorry to be pedantic, but Uwe Boll (the person making this film) is not a video game developer.

What he is, is an infamous German film producer, who has made several movies BASED off video games. His movies rate in the lowest scored on Rotten Tomatoes.

I can see how you become confused though.
