It’s really hot in UB at the moment simply because it’s summer. To me though, summer means Christmas. So it’s a strange feeling to have summer with no Christmas, or to feel like it’s Christmas in July.
But summer does mean holidays, and it’s much too long since my last break (a week ago!), so I’m off again. No I’m not off to rob more graves, instead I’m headed to Russia with some great friends for a very relaxing few days in Irkutsk and lazing by lake Baikal.
Here’s my itinerary:
Wednesday 23rd July - Flying out of UB at 11pm, arriving in Irkutsk at 1am and heading straight to the backpackers for a snooze.
Thursday 24th July - Catching the 10am bus to Olkhon Island, it’s 5 hours or something so I might sleep on the bus, or take in the great scenery. Staying at Nikita’s Guesthouse on Olkhon Island, highly recommended and it sounds like the food will be great too!
Friday 25th July - Horseriding along the coastline? A boat ride around the island? or just walking around the island taking a dip whenever the sun gets too hot?! Choices!
Saturday 26th July -Catching the bus back to Irkutsk, probably murdered with my kidneys sold on the black market by Russian mafia (according to my workmates). Spending the evening in Irkutsk, is it nice? I’m sure i’ll find out
Sunday 27th July - Cruising around Irkutsk for another day checking out buryat and other local cultural thingimy jigs, and then catching the train at 8PM to UB … TOOT!
Monday 28th July - Zzzzz sleeping and snoozing, playing cards and chilling with all the cool people taking the train to UB, might read a book or wander the carriages aimlessly asking for money because I was robbed of my kidneys in Irkutsk.
Tuesday 29th July - Arriving home at 6am, just in time to head to work and keep pluggin away… oh and showing off to work my amazing skills at avoiding all the evil perils that exist in that evil country they call Russia.
